Review: It’s Okay to be different

It’s okay to be different is a story about a girl named Irianna who goes from being an ordinary kindergartener to an upstander. On Irianna’s first day of kindergarten she noticed how different everyone looked. She was the only girl with puffy hair and her friend Alex was the only little boy in her class with long braids. Alex’s braids were so long that some of the other kids in the class joked that he looked like a girl. When Irianna saw the other kids teasing Alex, she stood up for Alex and told the bullies to leave him alone. The next day of school Irianna noticed that Alex cut his braids off and she told him he shouldn't have cut his hair because of those bullies.

I like this book because it sends a positive message to children that “It is okay to be yourself, and it is okay to be different.” This book teaches kids that no two people are the same and that everyone should be proud of their differences.

About the book

Alex is a kindergarten student that looks different to the other students in his class. Children make fun of him and he feels sad. Even when he attempts to change his appearance the children still make fun of him. Irianna teaches him it’s okay to be different. She reminds Alex no matter what you do or say someone will always have something mean to say. It is important to always be yourself. Everyone was created different for a reason.
